- Sliced Avocado
- Crispy Fried Shallots (We’ll attach a recipe later)

I love adding crispy fried shallots and sliced avocado – though that does add to both the time and cost of the dish.
Step-by-Step Salmon Poke Bowl Recipe
- Cook or prepare your rice.
- Slice sashimi-grade salmon into evenly-sized cubes. Toss salmon into a large mixing bowl.
- Salt your salmon cubes. Leave in the fridge for at least 15 minutes.
- Begin making your Salmon Poke marinade. Pour soy sauce, sriracha, sesame oil, and chopped garlic into the salmon bowl. Mix everything around until evenly coated. Leave your salmon marinating in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
- Put your marinated salmon onto your bowl of rice. Add your desired toppings.
Salmon Poke Bowl Recipe Tips & Advice
- Get a Zojurushi, or a similar rice cooker. Once you don’t have to spend much energy thinking about how to prepare your rice, this dish becomes so easy to make.
- I recommend marinating your salmon for a minimum of 30 minutes. Other resources recommend marinating the salmon for a few hours, but I’ve never noticed a difference.
- When making the sauce, I don’t worry too much about getting the exact portions of each ingredient. It still tastes amazing every time.
Everything Else to Know About Salmon Poke
At this point, you should be good to go out and cook your own version of this dish. But if you have any lingering questions, I’ve broken down everything else you need to know in this section.
Salmon Poke Bowl Calories
This Salmon Poke Bowl recipe contains 450 calories. This number can range from about 350-650 depending on the toppings you include, and how much salmon you want.
But this is a light, healthy dish just about anyway you look at it.
How Long Does it Take to Make Salmon Poke?
It takes one hour to make this Salmon poke bowl recipe. However, there’s only about 10-15 minutes of active cooking time, so you’ll be able to spend most of that hour sitting on the couch.
If you own a rice cooker, I recommend starting to cook your rice before doing anything else. This gives you about an hour to work with. It should only take about 10-15 minutes to dice your salmon, make the marinade, and prep the sushi rice mixture.
If you make your rice some other way, (stovetop, pre-made, microwave, etc.) you can make this dish in about 20-30 minutes, depending.
My Experience with Salmon Poke
Jeremy Piven allegedly got mercury poisoning from eating sushi twice a day for 20 years. After tasting this salmon poke bowl, I think those are rookie numbers.
This is my absolute favorite type of dish to cook: something that looks difficult and impressive, but actually requires almost no effort to prepare.
Make it as a light dinner when you’re entertaining, a healthy lunch, or be like me and Jeremy Piven and make this every day of your life for 20 years. The choice is yours.
